Programs for troubled girls

January 8th 2010 -- Craig Rogers

Programs for troubled girls are options that parents seek out when they are faced with a troubled teen at home.  Most Christian parents don’t know what to do with their once perfect child who is now a monster, turning their home into a battleground.  Life with a troubled girl is not easy, and everything seems to be “turned upside-down”.  These Christian parents often feel isolated and shunned by their church and Christian friends.  It is as if the troubled girl has a disease and the other parents don’t want his/her problems to rub off on their own child.  Also, parents of troubled teens feel as though they are judge by others, as if their parenting ability is suspect.  Parents of troubled teens seeking help for their troubled teen often feel lost, alone, and desperate.  We believe that this parent is being tried by fire… are you going to keep your eyes on Jesus?  Please enjoy the teaching below by Sandy Brunson.

Only Fire Purifies

by Sandy Brunson

"For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be CONFORMED to the IMAGE OF HIS SON, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren," Romans 8:29. There was a group of women in a Bible study on the book of Malachi. As they were studying chapter three, they came across verse three, which says: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." This verse puzzled the women, and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out about the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible study. That week, the woman called up a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work.

She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest in silver beyond her curiosity about the process of refining it. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest so as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot, then she thought again about the verse that says, "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.

The man answered that, yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eye on it the entire time it was in the fire. For if the silver was left even a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is refined?" He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's the easy part -- when I see my image reflected in it." If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has His eye on you and will keep His hand on you and watch over you until He sees His image in you.

The Word of God teaches us that our ways are not God's ways. Most people shirk from the "fires of life"... avoiding them if at all possible... yet they are one of the "ways of God" which bring His best out in us. Fire cleanses...fire purifies. Remember that when the Hebrew children exited the "fiery furnace"... they were "free" of the things that had them bound when they went in. Strange that the "fires of life" have that effect on the ones who "look to Jesus" in the midst of them. Even in our times of testing and trial..it is important what we "look at"! Especially there! Allow Him to release you of anything that hinders that holds you back from being all that He planned for you to be...in this life and in the next.

"But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, ARE BEING TRANSFORMED INTO THE SAME IMAGE from glory to flory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord," 2 Corinthians 3:18

WHAT WE LOOK AT....WE DRAW TO OURSELVES.

WHAT WE LOOK AT....WE ARE CONFORMED TO.

LOOK UNTO JESUS day by day, on good days and on bad....and be conformed into HIS SAME IMAGE!
